I am now a Certified Advanced ColdFusion developer

15 comments Posted by: Laura

I have finally taken the certification test after all these years of being a CF developer. The reason it took me so long was that I never saw the need for it. It seemed to me that I would only need it if I were looking for job. So why did I take it? Because I am pursuing the instructor certification from Macromedia, and this is one of the requirements.

The questions were not difficult, but some of them were a little tricky or required memorization (something I am really bad at). I got a 94%, qualifying for the "advanced" title.

Because I had never taken an exam of this type, I bought the Macromedia ColdFusion MX 7 Certified Developer Study Guide by Ben Forta, to see what topics would be covered and the format and type of questions I could get. The questions in the exam were easier than those in the guide, but I am glad I read it because besides being good practice, there were a couple of questions that I wouldn't have known without it.

As a side note, we would like to thank our readers for sending us gifts from our Amazon wish list:

  • Lukas Ruebbelke, he was very generous, sending us 4 gifts!
  • David Brannan
  • Micheal White, again!

& just wanted to say excellent work on your site!

I have seen your code and the fact that someone who knows as much as you might still fail the test is a reflection on the people who wrote the test and not you.

I assure you coders all over the world are learning far more about the cfform tag from your stuff than they are from macromedia.com

Congratulations Laura!

I completed an Advanced CF course in London, and after talking to the instructor I bought the developer study guide.

It's a great book, and well worth the little amount of money it costs.

By the way, I think I saw your name in the offical list of developers over at Macromedia.

Well done!

Congratulations for you certification.
Indeed there is a lot of good information in this book, I learned a lot from it.
You should try the Actionscript certification it's pretty easy ;))
Cheers,
Philippe

Hey, I have a question for anyone who can answer it: is there anyway to run a javascript function inside a cfform html textarea?

I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of, and just can't seem to produce any results past displaying the javascript code in the text area.

Thanks.

Congrats Laura. I am on your footsteps myself.
"The polls widget" : may I have a look to the code?

All the best.

Well done on the exam. Perhaps you can use your genius to help me (-: I have spent a lot of time building an app using flash forms in CF7. But when i went to upload it to our live box none of the forms show any query data. Just blank forms. All the data is there. I have dumped all the queries and checked.

Seen this before? Have been on various lists but no luck. Pretty stuck here, and in trouble if i cant get app to work.

Using cf 7.0.1 and IIS.

Congrats! I got my certification a few months ago and I still refer to your site quite often for help.
Thanks for the great site and best wishes to you on your instructor cert!
Laura
Thank you all for the kind words.

Paul,
That is a common problem. Check the last paragraph of this post on how to set up Flash Remoting on IIS http://www.asfusion.com/blog/entry/introduction-to-flash-remoting. Or check MM docs on Flash Remoting set up.
